About the race

2nd edition of a new trail running event taking place just outside Ulaanbaatar City in Mongolia. Start and finish is at the Genghis Khan Monument, one of the country's main tourist attractions. The trail run is part of a bigger outdoor sports festival under the banner of the Mongolian Empire Adventure Series and also includes a Gravel Granfondo cycling competition the day after.

The inaugural edition of Yam Trail took place on Saturday, 15 August 2025 with domestic runners. In 2027, the event opens up to international runners and the 75km long ultra is included in the Asia Trail Master Championship and Grandmaster Quest calendars.

This is a highly scenic and peaceful grassland run in a remote area, often without mobile connectivity. Participants need to bring a sense of adventure. Generally, the course is very runnable, but nevertheless there is some elevation gain to be conquered (approx. 2000 m). Ulaanbaatar City rests at well over 1000 m above sea level, so even in August temperatures are expected to be moderate and enjoyable for long distance running. Participants need to have finished at least one 50km trail race or 42km road marathon before attempting to run Yam Trail 75km. Less ambitious runners can also opt for the 25km or 10 Mile categories.

Asia Trail Master is actively involved in the management of Yam Trail.

Conditions of entry (all distances): registrants must provide accurate personal details, backed by proof of ID or passport at race pack collection on 13 August 2027; must hold personal medical and accident (travel) insurance; start at their own risk — the organisers cannot be held liable and runners must withdraw if injured or unwell; and persons serving a WADA competition ban are not permitted to take part. For the 75km, runners must additionally show proof of completing a 50km trail race or a 42km road marathon within the last two years (attach to your registration). Check the event website for details.

Refund and cancellation policy: registration is personal and cannot be transferred to another person, nor forwarded to next year. To withdraw, email kris@asiatrailmaster.com. Cancellations before 1 July 2027 receive a full refund; between 1 July and 7 August 2027 a 50% refund; after 7 August 2027 no refund. If the race is cancelled before 00:00 on 13 August 2027 due to force majeure (including extreme weather) entry fees are refunded in full; if it is cancelled after that point, or started but suspended due to force majeure, no refund is given.
